“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders…” Judges 6:13

“Why” is a question that many have when something tragic has happened. We see in judges Israelites did evil in God’s eyes (Judges 6:1).

God is sovereign and will not compromise His name. The Israelites went after other Gods (anything that is raised above God); they went against God’s commanded will.
