I did not come to bring peace!

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword (Greek word “machaira”).” Mathew 10:34.

Many are conflicted by this passage. Is Jesus not the Lord of Peace? However, when we look at the whole verse, not just a piece of the pie, we see the truth.

Ephesians 6:17 says to take the sword (machaira) of Spirit, which is the word of God. So we see Jesus came to bring the word of God’s truth.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (machaira), piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

The word of God will show us areas in our life that need to be cut away, purged so that we can become the righteousness of God.

Remember, there is no peace for the wicked (Isaiah 48:22), and Jesus says, “He who is not with Me is against Me, ..” Mathew 12:30

We are kept in perfect peace if our mind is stayed on God (Isaiah 26:3).
