Who is to Blame?
When we experience a loss, whether it is the death of a loved one, or a job, health or finances, our human nature tends to point fingers at God. We ask, “Why did You do this to me?”
If we trust God’s word to be true we can see where the blame should go. In John 10:10 we see, “The thief [Satan] does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”
Now we may ask, “If God is greater, why does He allow bad things to happen to good people?” Let’s look at Job 2:3-6. “Then the LORD said to Satan, ‘Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause.’
So Satan answered the LORD and said, ‘Skin for skin! Yes all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!’
And the LORD said to Satan, ‘Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life.’”
Because we have the book of Job in God’s word we can see a glimpse of a righteous man suffering even to the point where his friends told him he must have sinned to have so much pain. He lost family, riches, was rejected by his friends, and his wife, lacking in faith told him to curse God and die. We see how God was always with him through this terrible ordeal and Job knew it. Because of his trials and how God rewarded him in the end, we can have hope. We do not know why God allows things to happen; if we did, He wouldn’t be God. Maybe He is using your trail and mine to give others hope.
