Who Challenges Your Identity?

Who Challenges Your Identity?

I am a product of the 1960’s where the generation at that time was concerned with “finding” themselves, and would walk out of marriages looking for their identity. The question is, what identity are we seeking. And how do we know it is our identity when we find it?

Jesus had an identity decision. As soon as He was baptized He went to the wilderness to pray. When He was there, Satan tempted Him to question His identity. “Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, ‘If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down…’”

Matthew 4:5,6a NKJV

The devil quoted a verse from the Psalms to tempt Jesus, but Jesus came back with scripture from Deuteronomy 6:16, “You shall not tempt the LORD your God…”

We need to know what God says about us so we know who we are. In Genesis 1:26, 27, we have evidence of the trinity, the Godhead three in one, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.’”

In I Peter 1:16, the verses in Leviticus 11:44, 45 are quoted, “…because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’” And, in I Corinthians 2:16, we are told, “…But we have the mind of Christ.”

Are we willing to take the identity that God has designed for us; holy and thinking like God? God’s word is true and provides peace, security in our identity, and life, through the blood and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
