We all have experienced problems in relationships with friends, co-workers and even casual acquaintances. But what happens when family members come against us and hurt us repeatedly? What are we to do? First, I want you to know that God sees everything and knows the truth, and He knows the hurt you have experienced. God will work everything out for your good if you remain in Him. Obedience brings blessings.
The Bible tells many stories of where family members came against a person.
- Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery because they were envious of his dreams. They told their father that Joseph was dead.
- Cain killed his brother Abel.
- Athaliah Killed her children and grandchildren to seize the throne.
- King David commits adultery with Bathsheba and murders her husband.
- Even Jesus family came against Him. His mother and brothers were embarrassed by his preaching, and his brothers didn’t believe in him. His spiritual brothers, Jewish people, killed Him.
What does the Bible tell us we should do?
“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8.
Jesus commands us to love our enemies, even if they are family members. We should pray for them and respond with love, allowing God to work in their hearts.
“Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” Mathew 5:44 and forgive them. Forgiving does not make what they did right. But it makes us right with God (Mathew 6:14).
The Bible tells us to try to live in peace with everyone. God will take care of the situation. A person will reap what they sow. God says vengeance is mine. We should allow God to work. Your job is to pray for the person and pray for the Lord to give you wisdom.
