What is Our Cross?
Jesus says in Matthew, “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” Jesus put nothing in front of the mission He was sent to do when He was on earth.
When God calls us to a mission, big or small (it could be serving as the greeter at church), do we have excuses; I need to get a job first so I can be financially secure, I need to get married first, I need to see my children graduate from school first, I need to take care of my elderly parents first, or I need some “me” time.
Jesus realized that putting our relationship with Him above all others is going to be a sacrifice at times. But His rewards outweigh the consequences. He does not want us to ignore our responsibilities, but He wants to be first in our lives.
“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me…He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
Matthew 10: 37-39 NKJV
