What about Family?
I remember when my dad was dying. I was 35 years old and he had been bedridden for a year, suffering from Parkinson’s disease. That was a time when most people had never heard of Parkinson’s. He was at home with a weekly visit from a VA nurse. One day the report was that dad could pass away any day. It was three weeks before he actually passed away, but I remember driving to see him and only thinking about him. The world was going on around me, but I didn’t notice.
When we are grieving, family relationships are suddenly magnified. I am so thankful that I am from a loving family. It was hard, but I can’t imagine going through the difficulty of watching someone die and the family not being supportive of each other.
God’s original will was for families to have His love in their hearts for each other. Having God (not religion) at the head of the home makes it stable.
“And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged him earnestly, saying, ‘My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.’…While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, ‘Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?’ As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe.’…He took the father and mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, ‘Talitha, cumi,’ which is translated, ‘Little girl, I say to you, arise.’ Immediately the girl arose and walked for she was twelve years of age.”
