We have a comforter, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Cor 1:3-4
Unfortunately, many do not rely on the Lord to bring them comfort. They resort to other sources of comfort in times of need, such as overindulging in food, shopping, drugs (legal or illegal), alcohol, sex or other people.
It is interesting to see that the word comfort in Greek is paraklēsis and means “calling near.”
God desires to comfort us and even goes as far as alluring us back (bringing us near Him), “I will allure her, Will bring her into the wilderness, And speak comfort to her.” Hosea 2:14
You can trust the Lord during these times; He will strengthen you and bring you close to Him.
