Washing Feet
Have you ever wondered why Jesus washed the disciples’ feet? They saw Him as their teacher and Lord; someone above them. He was teaching them a lesson in humility, that no matter our status in life, we should be humble enough to wash the feet of someone who may have a lower status as far as society is concerned.
Jesus always taught lessons of selflessness and love for others, by His example. Forgiveness takes humility. We are required to let go of an offense someone has done to us, even though it doesn’t mean they were justified in their actions. To actually wash someone’s feet that have hurt you deeply is an action of not only humility, but forgiveness. Jesus washed the feet of Judas moments before he betrayed Jesus.
“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. “
