Thorn or infirmity?
“And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.” 2 Cor 12:7
We have all had thorns in our lives. Some are sharper than others, and they are hard to get out once they prick you. This thorn was given to Paul, and it in some way impacted his flesh, his body. It is interesting to note that when something is given to us. We have the option to receive it or not. And since this thorn was a messenger of Satan, a messenger of satan was given to Paul to be a pain in his side, to keep Paul in check. And it appears that Paul received what was given to him.
We should all be on guard, even when Satan tempted Jesus. Satan went away until a more opportune time. We are to put on the whole armour of God every day and go to battle with all prayer.
Many today say that their infirmity or sickness is a thorn that has been given to them, and that is why they are not healed. Unless you are Paul, and have had a great revelation, this is deception. God says to humble ourselves, and if we do not humble ourselves, God will humiliate us.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7
