The Big present
Have you ever opened a big present at Christmas time and inside we’re many small gifts?
Christ is the big gift, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,…”. John 1:14. When this happened, the eternal God stepped out of eternity into time to become a man of flesh and blood.
“For a child is born to us, / A Son is given to us…/ And His name will be called / Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“…in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.” Acts 17:28
In Him we have smaller gifts: grace (Ephesians 4:7); salvation and faith (Ephesians 2:8); righteousness (Romans 5:17); peace (John 14:26); joy (John 15:11); God’s Word (John 17:8); Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38); and, gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23).
“and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.” Colossians 1:20
So remember this Christmas season, “…whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
