A storm surrounded the disciples as it does so many of us from time to time. Yet, Jesus proclaimed, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” Mathew 14:28
The Lord is always in our midst, no matter what is coming at us, and we are to rejoice always. Now I could stop here, and this would be a good word. However, there is more to glean…
“And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.” Mathew 29-31
Jesus said to Peter, “O you of little faith”, yet; Peter was the one who sought the Lord and asked to come to him on the water; this was a test. As you recall, Jesus told the disciples to get in the boat and go to the other side. He knew there was a storm coming. Peter’s focus at first was on the Lord and was able to do what our Lord did, walk on water. However, he became distracted by what was around him; fear set in, and he doubted.
There is a big storm all around us right now—a plague of great magnitude. The Lord has put us in the midst. Are we going to rejoice, not be afraid or doubt? Jesus proclaimed we would do greater works than Him; this is a test of your faith. “”Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” John 14:12
