St Patrick’s Day

Many celebrate St. Patrick’s day as a Holy day. However, St. Patrick is not in the Bible, and the commentaries vary in terms of the beliefs of the man. A predominant theme is that St. Patrick was tremendously effective and saw many pagans turn to put their faith in Christ.

Recognizing the man for his work in Christ has been taken out of the day and replaced with a variety of symbols (Wearing green, leprechauns, corn beef, luck of the Irish and pots of gold); beliefs; and, parties.

However, there is one St. Patrick’s Day symbol the shamrock (clover) to teach the concept of a Triune God to the Irish. Each of the three lobes of the shamrock represents one member of the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We do have a Triune God. He is three in one and is Holy. There is no luck in this. God is a sovereign God; everything is in His control.

As we consider this day of celebration by many, let us keep our focus on Jesus Christ, “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” Titus 2:13

And our mission, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.” Mathew 24:14
