Deep wounds that affect the emotions, mind, and/or will are called soul wounds. These wounds go deep and can have long term consequences unless dealt with.
Like a physical wound, a soul wound if not cleaned, ointment applied and bandaged it will continue to ooze and possibly get infected. You must get to the root of the soul wound to be effective in healing these wounds. I recall having a wart one time and I decided to just snip off the top. It grew back. I needed to get the roots of the wart out to kill it from growing back. The same is true with a soul wound. You need to determine what is the cause of the wound.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
Many soul wounds are caused by people that have hurt us deeply. Forgiveness is the first step to healing. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what needs to be healed.
“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
