Son of Man
Why did Jesus refer to Himself as the “Son of Man”? During His ministry on earth He was teaching us how to be Christlike. Jesus did not use His supernatural powers when He was on earth, but relied on the Father’s power through the Holy Spirit. He came as a man, but still God, to show us, that we as mortal humans can do what He did by relying on the Holy Spirit. He did impart God’s power to His disciples so that they could be successful in the spiritual kingdom. But, now that Jesus (and authority is and was in His name) has overcome death, He is an intercessor for us to the Father, and has sent the Holy Spirit to us so that we can have that same power to overcome.
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” John 14:10 NKJV
“And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over the unclean spirits.” Mark 6:7 NKJV
“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” Luke 4:1 NKJV
As Jesus left this earth, He sent us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” Acts 1:8a
“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:34 NKJV
