If you feel like you are less than other human beings, you never measure up, or you will not succeed no matter what you do, then this is the “shame game” the enemy tries to play.
Shame grows in dysfunctional families, where children are not nurtured or have been abused (physically, emotionally, sexually), which may have opened up a soul wound. However, this does not mean you cannot kick shame out of your life.
Those who have shame have a tendency to cover up and hide. They are tormented by Self-consciousness, self-esteem issues, a sense of not feeling worthy of love or, worse yet, life. Notice Adam and Eve’s response when they sinned, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked (uncovered); so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” Genesis 3:7-8
Whether committed by you or upon you, sin may cause feelings of shame, guilt, and rejection.Remember, “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.” Luke 12:2
Ask the Lord to show you areas in your life that are hidden and ask Him to give you wisdom on how to deal with it, “Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.” Psalm 51:6
Proclaim, “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.” Isaiah 50:7
