How can I honor my mother if she is not a good mother?
A loving mother is essential to raise a healthy child. So what happens if your mother is not all that? You still need to honor her. The Bible gives promises for those who honor their mothers.
“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” Ephesians 6:2-3
The word “well” here is to be well off, act rightly, prosper and the second promise to live a long life.
You need to remember that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). He desires to kill the family. Look at your mother the way the Lord looks at her, as Holy, blameless and righteous. This is the way the Lord sees us before we become it. Pray for your mother and when she does things contrary to what a mother should do, say “this is not my mother; this is the enemy trying to work through my mother to divide us and hurt me”. Do not give the enemy a foothold (Eph 4:27). Ask the Lord for help.
“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalm 54:4
