Moving on to maturity

Moving on to Maturity

What does it mean to be a mature Christian? The word mature in Greek is perfect (Teleios).

None of us can be perfect. However, if we look at the parable of the seed, we can see What God desires for us when He says, to be perfect as I am perfect (Mathew 5:48).

“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature (not perfected).” Luke 8:14

The seed is God’s word, and we may hear His word. However, the world’s concerns prevent it from penetrating our hearts, souls, and spirits and changing us.

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.   Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” James 1:22-24

We are to live God’s word. “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14

“Therefore let us leave the elementary teaching about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.”.   Hebrews 6:1
