Motivation
What motivates us? We can move around a room and shake hands with two different motives. One motive could be so everyone would be sure to see us, and another motive could be that we really care about each person and want to know how things are going in their lives.
The first motivation is self serving. The second act is love and concern.
It is interesting to me as I have watched people react to love shown to them. I had an experience once when my gift was rejected because the person saw it as a payoff rather than a thank you gift. My gift had been sacrificial because of my income level and I was shocked by the response. I didn’t give that person another gift because they didn’t know how to receive without suspicion.
How many times do we not receive from God because we do not trust Him? We could miss a chance to allow Him to pour out His love on us. We need to let Him heal our broken heart because of the lack of love we have received from humans, so He can show us what true love is.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loves us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [the atoning sacrifice] for our sins.” I John 4:7-10 NKJV
