“Make me to hear joy and gladness…” Psalm 51:8

Sin takes away our joy and gladness. David had sinned and was seeking restoration from the Lord. Restoration only comes after repentance. Sin had created a barrier to receiving joy, and David knew that only the Holy Spirit could restore that joy.

“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” Psalm 51:12
