Eating Disorders

Eating Disorders

Have you Lost your appetite, stopped eating, purging, or binging? If so, this could be signs of inner struggles.

Thirty million people in the US suffer from eating disorders, and it is not gendered specific. Eating disorders such as (Anorexia, Bulimia, overeating or binge eating plague our country. Anorexia is the most lethal psychiatric disorder; leading causes of death in US.

I remember when one of my favorite singers, Karen Carpenter died of Anorexia at age 32. I was shocked. Eating disorders are often a hidden sin. Hidden from everyone but God.

What is the underlying cause of these eating disorders and what does the Bible say about it.

Eating disorders often develop in response to emotional pain, low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, trauma, self-rejection, or self-hate. The person with an eating disorder has heart issues. The Bible says that Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and bind up the wounds (Psalm 147:3). The first step in deliverance is to ask the Lord to heal your heart.

Eating disorders are also an addiction, compulsion. The person needs to confess it as a sin and turn from it. The body is basically being abused by the person and our bodies are the Temple of God.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Cor 6:19-20

Warning: God will not take away something you want to keep.

You need to lay everything at God’s feet and let him take control of your life.
