When a man becomes a father, he has taken on new responsibilities that may overwhelm. Emotions that most likely have been suppressed come to the surface, and his connection with his partner becomes second. Feelings of abandonment or rejection may surface. He is experiencing losses as he takes on this new role. Loss of connection with a spouse, sexual intimacy, and identity.
A father who embraces this new role as the emotional support for his child, caretaker and the disciplinary will find his heart growing — walking through fatherhood with Father God as the guide can be one of the most intimate experiences a man can have.
Teach your child, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
Provide for your family, “Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” 1 Tim 5:8
Pray for your child, David was that example “And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.” 1 Chr 29:19
Be an example to your children. Form a relationship with the Father and become one, this can be the best thing you do for your child, “Father and I are one.” John 10:30
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.” Col 3:12-14
Lord, I pray for all fathers on this Father’s Day. Lord, I ask that you guide and direct them. Fill them with wisdom, love and a fathers heart. Grow them in their relationship with you. Thank you Father God for being that example of what a father should be.
