Jesus proclaimed just before He died. “It is finished.” John 19:30. His work was complete and finished, there was nothing more to do. If the work is complete, then we need to appropriate it.  

As I meditated on this, I wondered how I could apply this to my sleep. God desires me to sleep and sleep in peace. 

At the beginning of the Bible, God created the heavens, earth, animals and us. When He was complete, He rested. WhenJesus’ work was completed, He rested.   

I believe the key to rest and peace is to be in Christ.  When we are in Christ, the work is complete, our minds have peace, and we rest in Him.  

Look at the Israelites, “For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ” Psalm 95:10-11

“…since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.  For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.  For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” Hebrews 4:3

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7)
