I have heard the statement over the years, “If you complain, you remain.” Based upon scripture, complainers will go down a slippery slope of no return. Guard your heart above all else (Proverbs 4:23), what comes out of the mouth is a reflection of the heart (Mathew 15:18)
Paul tells us in Corinthians 10:6-10 that complaining is amongst these sins.
Do not…
- lust after evil things
- become an idolater
- commit sexual immorality
- complain
Would you think that complaining would be a great sin? The word complain in greek in this verse is (gongyzō, murmur or grumble).
A murmur or grumbler is a person who is unthankful.
Romans 1 describes the slippery slope of the one who complains and is unthankful, granted these are Christians, “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” Romans 1:21
1 Corinthians 10:10 warns against complaining, “nor complain as some of them also complained and were destroyed by the destroyer.”
Be thankful in all things (1 Thess 5:18).
