In order to receive an inheritance, someone has to die and more than likely we have to have a relationship with Him. Jesus has died

“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:15

God doesn’t wait to give us our inheritance, If we walk in God’s will, we remain in His “will” inheritance.

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:3-4
