We can see through scripture with the Pharisees still today, there is no sin greater in religious circles than Hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy “is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own does not conform;”
Why is that? Why do people need to pretend to be something they are not? Could it be insecurity, an inferiority complex, wanting to feel accepted, pride, fear… the list goes on? We can some up the problem in one simple word, deception. People have deceived themselves. God knows who they are and what their struggles are. Honesty is always the best policy. Laying it all down at the Lord’s feet. Give everything to Him.
When the disciples came to the Lord and asked Him what would be the sign of His coming and the end of the age, His first statement was, Take heed that no one deceives you.” Mathew 24:4 KJV. This includes yourself. This biblical reference underscores the weight of deception and the need for self-awareness in our spiritual lives.
I heard a pastor say once, “if you think you cannot be deceived, then you already are.”
PRAY: Lord, I ask that you show me if I am deceiving myself, someone else or others deceiving me. Show me what I need to see. Holy Spirit, the spirit of truth, bring forward your truth.
