How do we worship God?

Worship is a difficult concept for many to understand. Yet, our greatest desire should be to worship our Father, for He is Holy. Worship is an attitude (a settled way of thinking, a position of the body). Worship is how we relate to God and come into communion with Him.

“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

We are either worshipping God or Satan—both desire to be worshipped.

“Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'” Mathew 4:8-10

Notice the devil has to bribe you to worship Him; worship given to God is a free-will offering. It is done in truth and can only be done from Spirit to Spirit. We are made up of Spirit, soul and body (2 Thess 5:23). Many confuse praise with worship. In order to worship God, you need to come into His presence, and scripture says that you do that through Thanksgiving and praise (Psalm 100:4), and once you are there, you go one step further and bow down/prostrate/kneel before Him, raise your hands (Psalm 95:6-7) and worship Him because He is Holy (Revelation 4:8-11). The result of worship should be hearing the Lord’s voice and service.
