God has been speaking to me about Holiness lately. He is Holy, and we are told we are to be like him and be Holy (qāḏôš) (Leviticus 20:26).
What does this mean? Can we even define Holiness or achieve it? After all, Holiness is God’s nature. We can only understand Holiness by seeking to know God.
In the New Testament, in the book of Hebrews, we are told to pursue peace with all people and Holiness (Hebrews 12:14). The Greek word for Holiness is hagiasmós, and it means the effect of consecration: the sanctification of heart and life.
Through the work on the cross, Jesus shed blood; we are sanctified. We have an active part in this work of renewing our minds and heart.
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
