Heroes don’t wear capes, they have scars

Heroes don’t wear capes, they have scars.

Every year a non-profit I know has a run to support children that have been abused.  The race’s theme is superheroes.    The children and adults dress up in costumes of superheroes from movies and TV.  Many of these children have deep scars and are looking for hope.  Are we leading them to hope in the wrong hero?  A hero that can’t relate.  Jesus not only has power, but he also has scars.

“…. You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, And He heard me from His holy hill.  I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.”  Psalm 3:2-6

“But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”  Isaiah 40:31
