Have you been deceived?
You thought that person was telling the truth, and then you come to find out they have deceived you.
I heard a pastor once say, “if you don’t believe you can become deceived, you are already deceived.”
Pride can mask deception, believing we have the wisdom to not be deceived. True wisdom is realizing we fall short of knowing, and God is the only one who can truly show us the way.
Jacob deceived his brother Esau out of his birthright blessing (Genesis 25:29-34; 27). In turn, Jacob was deceived by Laban (Genesis 29:25) and gave him Leah instead of Rachel whom he loved.
A deceiving spirit has been with us from the beginning of creation when the serpent deceived Eve who in turn deceived Adam (Genesis 3).
So how do we not become deceived? Submit all to God and ask Him to show you.
Lord, I ask that you show me if I am deceiving myself, someone else or if someone is deceiving me. Thank you, Jesus, for showing me what I cannot see.
