Grieving in advance

If you have a loved one diagnosed with a terminal disease, you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, or you are caring for your parents who are getting older, you may be grieving in advance (anticipatory grief).

Anticipatory grief is feelings of grief or loss before the loss happens. The feelings may include anger, depression, guilt, sorrow or anxiety.

So how do you cope and walk through this grief?

First and foremost, you need to keep your focus on Jesus. He is the source of all hope.

Express your feelings with Jesus and ask him to comfort your soul and strengthen you to walk through the loss you are facing. “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” Psalm 119:28

And last, stay in God’s word; His word will refresh your soul.

“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.” Jer 31:25
