“Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter.” Ruth 1:20
Mara in Hebrew is bitterness. Naomi’s heart was bitter after her husband and two sons died. She had an ungodly belief that God was the cause of the deaths of her husband and children. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).
Even though Naomi was bitter in her spirit, she did not back away from God. She left the land of pagan gods and went back home to the land of her God, the Almighty. She went towards God, not away. Even though your heart may be grieving a loss, push towards God.
“My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.” Psalm 119:50
