The word friend has a different connotation today than in years past. A friend was one that you could be rely on, could tell them anything, and could count on them to be faithful and loving. A friend today is anyone that can be found on a social media search engine and added to a list of friends. Can you count on these friends to drop everything and be there for you? Do they love you, unconditionally? The generation today does not know what a friend is.
“A friend loves at all times” Proverbs 17:17
“…kindness should be shown by his friend” Job 6:14
Job is an example of a good friend. Even when his friends mocked him, scorned him, accused him of forsaking God, he forgave them and prayed for them. “And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends.” Job 42:10
“The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.” Proverbs 12:26
We have a friend in Jesus, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
