We all need fortitude, the strength to persist during difficult circumstances and losses.
The Battle of Iwo Jima was a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps and the Navy landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima. It was a bloody battle, and many losses sustained. However, the famous picture of a group of Marines with all their might mustered to erect a US flag reflected the fortitude to fight for the freedoms we have in this country today.
The Apostle Paul had fortitude and words of encouragement that speak boldly to us today. No matter what we are facing, we can move forward.
We cannot do this in our own strength. We must fix “our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrew 12:2
