How do I know if I have completely forgiven someone? Are you holding back from the person, just being cordial to get through the conversation or do you truly love the person and want God’s best for them? When you speak to them do you find irritation or a change in attitude? If so, your heart has not fully forgiven. Partial forgiveness is not forgiveness. God does not partially forgive us, why should we extend partial forgiveness towards others. We are to love with our whole heart, soul and mind. The hardest to forgive are those of our own house.
“For it is not an enemy who reproaches me; Then I could bear it. Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me; Then I could hide from him. But it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, And walked to the house of God in the throng.” Psalm 55:12-13
Ask the Lord to help you forgive. You cannot change your own heart. However, you need to make the decision that you want it changed.
“The Lord your God will change your heart and the hearts of all your descendants, so that you will love him with all your heart and soul and so you may live!” Deut 30:6 NLT
