Finding the Root Cause
I was pulling weeds in my yard and noticed some roots come up quickly, but others, such as dandelions, just won’t let go.
In the Bible we see different “roots” being the cause of something greater. For example: in I Timothy 6:10 it states, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Make a note that it is the “love” of money, not money.
Hebrews 12:15, talks about the “root of bitterness”. “…looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;” (NKJV)
In these two verses alone it talks about the repercussions of having a root of greediness and the root of bitterness. These repercussions seem to be sorrow, trouble and defilement (corruption).
When we are praying and it seems the prayers hit the ceiling; asking for God to show us the “root” of the problem can clear the way for our answers. If we ask God, He will tell us.
At times the root of bitterness can block the healing that God wants for us. Pulling that root out keeps the problem from continuing to come back, just like a dandelion does.
