Many have been called to fast by Churches around the country.   Do you automatically fast when the Church says we all need to fast?   Beware, ask the Lord if this is what He is calling you to do. It may not be.  King Saul called all the people to fast (1 Samuel 14:24), and he proclaimed a curse on anyone who ate food.  

“Now the Israelites were in distress that day, because Saul had bound the people under an oath, saying, “Cursed be anyone who eats food before evening comes, before I have avenged myself on my enemies!” So none of the troops tasted food.” 1 Samuel 14:24

The result of the fast called by leadership was disastrous.  The troops did not have the energy to fight the battle, and King Saul’s son Johnathan did not hear the command, so he ate food, and the curse fell upon him.  

Leadership, beware what you proclaim; your words have power. 

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the chains of injustice, to untie the cords of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?” Isaiah 58:6
