Have you given all of yourself, every ounce?
In Shakespeare’s play Merchant of Venice, Shylock a Jew who lends money to his Christian rival Antonio, sets the security at a pound of Antonio’s flesh if he does not repay the debt. When a bankrupt Antonio defaults on the loan, Shylock demands the pound of flesh.
Jesus didn’t just lay down a pound of flesh. He gave every ounce for us, He paid our debt in full.
We cannot repay back what Jesus has done for us. So, what does He desire in return? Love Him with our whole heart, soul and mind (Mark 12:30). He wants us to give all of ourselves to Him, he doesn’t just want an pound in return.
Do you know when we lay down all, we experience a loss? A loss of identity in our selves. Our minds and hearts become renewed, and our desires reflect God’s desires.
“and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.” 2 Cor 5:15 NKJV
