May your love abound

“And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,” Philippians 1:9

We see amongst us that the love of many has grown cold. The Bible tells us the reason (Mathew 24:12). Lawlessness and not love is abounding.

Paul prays that our love will grow in knowledge and discernment. Reverance for God is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 17) and the Greek word for discernment is “aisthesis” and it means perception, not only by senses but by the intellect.

Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out.”

The lawlessness that we see in our nation today is made clear in the Bible, history has repeated itself, it is like the times of Lot and Noah. “They abandoned the God who made them and rejected the Rock their Savior. They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols. They sacrificed to false gods, which are not God.” Deut 32:15-17

God was angry, He said,  “I will heap calamities on them and spend my arrows against them.  I will send wasting famine against them, consuming pestilence and deadly plague;” Deut 32:23-24

God goes on to say, “They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them.  If only they were wise and would understand this  and discern what their end will be!” Deut 23:28-29

O’ Lord we humble ourselves before you and pray that You heal our land. Come into the hearts of your people. Give them discernment and knowledge of You. Open their eyes to see the truth. Cause them to hear your lovingkindness, cause them to know the way they should go. Forgive us, Lord, we have sinned. You are merciful and faithful. We seek mercy.
