Did the devil make you do it?

The comedian Flip Wilson coined the phrase “The devil made me do it,” and many people live by it today. In other words, they do not take responsibility for their actions and place the blame on the enemy of our souls. The devil does not make us do anything. We all have a choice. We can follow God, or we can follow satan; this is a moment-by-moment choice.

“let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” 1 Cor 10:1

The devil does tempt us, but it is our choice whether we will succumb to the temptation. Even Jesus was tempted (Luke 4). God does provide a way of escape (1 Cor 10:13). Humble yourself (1 Peter 5:6); Deny Self (Luke 9:23); and Submit to God and resist the enemy (James 4:7). Put everything in God’s hand. Continue in God’s goodness (Romans 11:20-22).

Stand by faith (1 Cor 1:24).
