Are you depressed?

Are you depressed?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, “depression is a common but serious mood disorder. It causes severe symptoms that affect how you feel, think, and handle daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working.”

Three hundred million people worldwide suffer from depression and it is the leading cause of disabilies.

Proverbs 12:25 mentions depression directly, “Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” The heart is holding pain (worry, fear, hopelessness, sorrow, discouragement, brokenheartedness, and/or misery).

So from a spiritual perspective, we can see the cause of depression. The Lord says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Mathew 11:28-30

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.

Take the first step towards the Lord by thinking on good things. Throw out any negative thoughts or thoughts of what could happen, “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Phil 4-8-9

Second, trust the Lord over any thought or feeling, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Lord, I thank you that we can give you all of our cares and you will lift us up. Lord, I bind all anxiety, fear, stress, worry, lying and deceiving spirits, hopelessness and depression and I loose peace, faith, hope, truth, the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus.
