To deny, turn away from and not follow the things that are not of God, we must make a decision and stick with it. This decision is not a once and for all that is made at salvation. But it is a choice you must make every day. I will follow Jesus today, and I will do what He desires. Not my will but yours, Lord. Notice I said, Lord.

When you accept Jesus, He is your savior. When you decide to follow Jesus, He is your Lord. He is the ruler of your life. 

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” Titus 2:11-14
