Critical as they come

How do you handle criticism?

We all have critical people in our lives, and they point out every one of our faults. How do you deal with these people in a Godly way?

Job experienced several friends and even family members who were critical of him when he needed encouragement. The old saying of kick them when they’re down comes to mind. How did Job handle the conflict? We see Job initially tried to defend himself, and sometimes when we do this, we get more criticism. His own wife told him to Curse God and die.

“His wife said to him, “Are you still trying to maintain your integrity? Curse God and die.” Job 2:9

And when we take things into our own hands, we might lash back, even if it is true, we should hold our tongue, “Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty.” Job 6:14

So what can you do?

  1. Humble yourself. Submit to God and resist the enemy James 4:7
  2. Don’t be offended
  3. Forgive
  4. Ask God to guide you on what to say to this person. Give me the Words Lord
  5. Remain hopeful even when others are not.
  6. Commit your way to the Lord (Psalm 37:4) and pray for those critical of you.

Remember, God know the beginning to the end,  “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.” Job 42:10
