Consequences of a hardened heart
Whoever hardens their heart will fall into calamity (Proverbs 28:14); their understanding becomes darkened, alienated from God (Eph 4:18); they can take on cares of the world (Mark 8:17); pride (Daniel 5:20); prevents healing (Acts 28:27); and, follows their own plan (Jeremiah 18:12).
Do we see this in our society today? Absolutely. People are rushed, driven by trying to make everything come together without God. We see anger rising up quite easily in the hearts of people today, resulting in terrible consequences. People are living in the flesh, rather than in the spirit. What this boils down to is a removal of blessings and increase in curses.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:7-10
