According to the Mental Health of America, “Co-dependency is a learned behavior that can be passed down from one generation to another. It is an emotional and behavioral condition that affects an individual’s ability to have a healthy, mutually satisfying relationship.”
God desires we have relationships, “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Genesis 2:18
The goal of the co-dependent person is to create self-worth or buildup self-esteem in themselves by focusing their life on others for affirmation.
God desires that we depend on Him to create, maintain and grow the relationships. Our self-worth comes from Him, and Him alone.
“Thus says the Lord:
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength,
Whose heart departs from the Lord. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.” Jeremiah 17:5-7
Seek God first and give only Him your whole heart, soul and mind.
