Christmas Cheer?

Christmas Cheer?

Maybe you didn’t have a mother who filled the kitchen with the smell of baking cookies in preparation for the Christmas celebration. Many have dealt with parents who were battling their own hurts and disappointments from Christmases past by resorting to substance abuse to deaden the pain.

If we realize what we are celebrating; not the cookies, lights, gift giving, family meals, we can still rejoice in the Christmas season no matter our circumstances. All of the above; cookies, lights, etc. are wonderful, but empty without the true celebration.

We celebrate, not a baby, but the LORD Jesus Christ, who came to love us and heal our broken hearts. So, if you are one of the many experiencing a broken heart that is the very reason Jesus came. Isn’t that the best reason for Christmas cheer?

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

“And He [Jesus] began to say to them, ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”

Luke 4:18-19, 21  NKJV
