Where Can We Find Comfort?

Where Can We Find Comfort?

You have a great loss. Someone comes to you and says, “I know how you feel.” Unfortunately, you know they do not have a clue how you feel. Did the comment give you comfort?

When we have been comforted by someone who has been through the same situation the comment above can be very well received. I am approaching the third year mark in a couple of months since my husband unexpectedly passed away. I was mentioning my husband in a passing remark and someone asked me how long it had been. I told them almost three years. I was surprised by their comment, but again I wasn’t. They said, “Don’t you think it is time to move on?”

I was surprised because it wasn’t as though I was grieving, but just talking about him. But, I wasn’t surprised because I knew this person had never experienced the loss of a spouse to death.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

II Corinthians 1:3,4  NKJV
