Build on Christ

Every year I take on a large project to maintain my home. This year I am replacing my back deck, which is approximately 30 years old. So you can probably imagine the condition it is in. As I started taking off the top boards, I found the support structure underneath was rotten. The top board condition gave me insight into the underlying condition of the support structure.

The same is true with our condition. What we see on the surface, physical ailments, mental issues, and relationship problems reflect the state of our soul (will, mind and emotions) and our spiritual life. What condition are you in? Who do you go to when you have problems? Is your support structure/foundation built on Christ?

We need to lay the foundation once, which is in Christ and go on building. If we have not laid it correctly, God will not allow us to go on building. This may be why many Christians do not have an understanding of God’s word and are not able to mature. Remember, everything not done in faith is a dead work.

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit.” Hebrews 6:1-3
