Bound in Prosperity?
I saw this verse in Psalms and had to take a moment to think about it. We usually think of prosperity as a good thing, not bondage. The verse states: “God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity…” (Psalm 67:6 NKJV)
In our Western world we have become materialistic. We watch programs where people refuse to buy a house because it does not have granite countertops. Is that bondage caused because we are prosperous and must have certain things?
The bondage becomes putting our worth in the things we own. It comes to a point that if we lose “things” we have no self-worth. When we know who we are in Christ Jesus, our worth is from Him. He sees us being worth giving His life for us. He suffered humiliation, physical and mental abuse, pain, and death, which He conquered, because He loved us and wants to make a way for us to be with Him forever.
“In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” I John 4:9 NKJV
“For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” I John 5:7 NKJV
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh [Jesus] and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:1,14 NKJV
