“Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Luke 6:36
We so often think about mercy as receiving mercy. What about giving mercy. Having compassion on people in need or even forgiving someone that has hurt you is being merciful.
Matthew 5:7 says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” As we give mercy, we receive mercy from our Father in Heaven.
God says, He will have mercy and compassion on who He desires.
And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
God showed great mercy on us when He sent His son Jesus to die for our sins. We deserved death/wrath.
I am so thankful that God cannot go against His character. What happens when God’s character of being just is in conflict with Mercy, love and compassion. There had to be a a reconcillation between what was due, owed, warranted…. So God sent His son Jesus to take the wrath so we could receive the mercy. Be merciful as your Father in Heaven.
